Jim Carrey's Ex-Girlfriend Dies of Apparent Suicide: Coroner

The former girlfriend of actor Jim Carrey has died from an apparent suicide, the Los Angeles coroner said on Tuesday.

Cathriona White, 30, was found dead in a Los Angeles apartment on Monday at around 8:40 p.m., assistant chief coroner Ed Winter confirmed to NBC Owned Television Stations.

"I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona," Carrey said in a statement provided by his publicist. "She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."

White's death was reported to authorities as a suicide but a final determination will be made after an autopsy is performed, Winter said.

A drug overdose was suspected because several pills were found near her body, Winter told Reuters.

Carrey and White dated on and off. According to TMZ, White and Carrey, 53, met in 2012 and dated briefly but rekindled their romance in May before splitting up again last week.

Carrey has been married twice. In 1987 he wed Comedy Store waitress Melissa Womer; they stayed together for eight years and have a 28-year-old daughter, Jane Erin Carrey. He married Lauren Holly in 1996 but the couple divorced a year later. Carrey was also involved with his "Me Myself and Irene" co-star Renee Zellweger, to whom he was briefly engaged. In 2005 he began a five-year relationship with Jenny McCarthy.
