Jerry Seinfeld to Play Year-Long Residency at Beacon Theatre

First Billy Joel did it at Madison Square Garden. And now another New York icon is setting up residency at a New York institution: Jerry Seinfeld.

The legendary comedian will play a year-long residency at New York's Beacon Theatre, the Madison Square Garden Company announced on Tuesday.

His residency, entitled "Jerry Seinfeld: The Homestand," will begin on January 7, 2016, and continue "about once a month" thereafter. Shows for Feb. 18, March 2, April 14, May 5 and June 8 have been set, with future dates expected to be announced soon.

"My favorite theater in New York to perform in has always been The Beacon," Seinfeld said, at a press conference. "Comedians live for certain houses that just feel 'alive' for some reason. The Beacon is that place for me and I am so excited to make it my new home."

Tickets for the first six shows go on sale Monday at 10 a.m., and will be will be available online at beacontheatre.com, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster Charge By Phone at 866-858-0008. Prices range from $79 to $175.

Seinfeld's comedy career took off in 1981, after his first appearance on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." He went on to co-create and star in the most successful comedy series in the history of television, NBC's "Seinfeld," which ran for nine seasons.

Seinfeld can currently be seen on the popular web series, "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." He also directed the off-Broadway production of "Colin Quinn: The New York Story."
