Greta Van Susteren Departs MSNBC

Greta Van Susteren is departing MSNBC, just over five months after joining the network, both she and the network announced Thursday.

MSNBC announced in January the former Fox News Channel host would be joining the network to host an hourlong program, "For the Record with Greta," which aired weeknights at 6 p.m. ET.

A 25-year cable news veteran, Van Susteren joined MSNBC after hosting "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" at Fox News for 14 years. Previously, Van Susteren spent more than a decade at CNN, where she served as a legal analyst and co-host of "Burden of Proof" and hosted the news program "The Point."

MSNBC released a statement about the departure which read, "MSNBC and Greta Van Susteren Have decided to part ways. Greta is a well-regarded television veteran and one of only a few broadcasters who can say they've hosted shows at all three major cable news networks. We are grateful to her and wish her the best."

The network announced Van Susteren would be replaced beginning Thursday evening by Ari Melber, the network’s chief legal correspondent and host of the "The Point" on weekends.

"Ari is a frequent presence on "Today" and across various MSNBC shows and will continue with those appearances as he takes on his new duties," MSNBC said.
