Frank Ocean Nabbed for Pot Possession During New Year's Eve Drive

Cops in Northern California allegedly turn up marijuana on the R&B star over the New Year's holiday.

Perhaps Frank Ocean should change the name of his album from Channel Orange to Smoking the Green.

The rising R&B star was busted for possession of marijuana during a New Year's Eve drive near Yosemite National Park in Northern California.

A spokesperson for the Mono County Sheriff's Office tells Reno's NBC affiliate KRNV that  25-year-old Ocean was pulled over by a deputy with an assist from a California Highway Patrol officer who spotted his black BMW speeding on Highway 295.

As the deputy approached the vehicle, he reportedly smelled marijuana, and a search allegedly eventually turned up a small bag of weed on Ocean's person.

The singer-songwriter, born Christopher Breaux, was cited for possession of marijuana and released. The case has since been sent to the local D.A.'s office, which will decide whether to make a case of it.

A rep for Ocean declined to comment, and the Grammy nominee has made no mention of the matter on his Twitter feed, though perhaps he was subtly nodding to it when he offered up a mysterious New Year's Day tweet that stated simply "repent."

Then again, given his outspoken support for fellow crooner Fiona Apple following her pot arrest last September ("Free Fiona," he tweeted at the time), maybe not.
