Special Olympics Chicago is swimming in record donations thanks to Jimmy Fallon.

Officials announced that Sunday's annual Polar Plunge raised $930,000, more than $150,000 than last year.

The excitement surrounding the event was raised several notches after the "The Tonight Show" host agreed to take a dip into the icy Lake Michigan waters at the behest of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who also plunged into the water.

Fallon charged the icy waters wearing his suit and tie alongside Emanuel, and came out looking cold and shocked.

More than 3,200 people participated in this year's event.

Organizers hope to top $1 million in donations, which are still being accepted here.

Donations of $20 or more receive a #swimmyfallon t-shirt.

NBC Chicago was a media sponsor for Sunday's event at North Avenue Beach.
