Like so many others, Ellen DeGeneres is heartbroken over Friday's tragic shooting in Newtown, Conn.

On Tuesday, the first day "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" has filmed since last week's tragic events, the episode will be dedicated to those who lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

"My goal every day for this show is to make you happy and make you feel good for an hour. I want it to be a safe zone," Ellen said tearfully. "I want it to be light and filled with joy. I want you to know that you can watch with your family and it won't be mean or sad. I want it to be uplifting, and I want to celebrate all that's good with life."

"And we're going to do the show today, but it's going to be a struggle because my heart is broken for those families, and for all the people in Newtown," she added. "We're holding you in our hearts and today's show is dedicated to you."

Our thoughts and prayers are with Newtown as well.
