Don't Worry: Britney Spears Is Alive and Well, Despite Sony Tweet

A Sony Twitter account appears to have been hacked, releasing a Tweet saying Britney Spears had died

No, Britney Spears is not dead. And yes, Sony continues to struggle with cyber security.

At 8:13 a.m. ET Monday, the @SonyMusicGlobal twitter handle posted a 'RIP @BritneySpears' post, complete with a crying emoji. Seven minutes later, another @SonyMusicGlobal tweet promised, "we will tell you more soon".

In between those two Tweets, Bob Dylan's verified Twitter account added a 'Rest in Peace @britneyspears' post.

Based on the informality of the Tweets, the Internet quickly sleuthed out that Britney Spears is alive and well, and Sony was hacked. Her rep confirmed to CNN soon after that she was doing fine, according to CNN's AnneClaire Stapleton.

By 9:10 a.m., the tweets had all been deleted.

For Sony, cyber issues are nothing new: Sony Pictures was the victim of the one of the most high-profile hacks in recent memory, when hackers released information about employees, emails between employees and more.

It's not clear of @bobdylan was hacked, or he (or whoever runs his social meda) simply saw the Sony tweet and believed it was real.
