Donald Trump Slams Florida Power & Light on Twitter

The Donald takes to Twitter to slam utility company on poles at Doral

He didn't say "You're Fired," but Donald Trump is less than pleased with the service he's getting from Florida Power & Light.

The outspoken businessman took to Twitter Tuesday to take a couple shots at FPL over what he says are rotting utility poles outside the Trump National Doral resort in Miami.

"In my opinion, one of the worst utility companies in the country is Florida Power and Light," Trump wrote on @realDonaldTrump.

Trump, who bought the property last year for $150 million, hinted at a lawsuit in a second tweet.

"Florida Power & Light has disgusting rotting utility poles outside Doral in Miami. They should put in new ones or will be sued," he wrote.

In an email to the Miami Herald, FPL spokesman Greg Brostowicz said the company has inspected more than 130,000 poles a year since 2006 and, as a result, replaced more than 50,000 poles and strengthened about 30,000.

"The safe and reliable performance of our system is paramount," he wrote. "We encourage any customer who has a specific concern to contact us directly."

Trump is in the midst of major renovations to the resort, which includes 700 hotel rooms, four golf courses, a spa, restaurants, a clubhouse, ballrooms, meeting and retail space.

He said he's been discussing the pole issue with FPL for a year.

"We put these magnificent signs up and we wanted them to ideally put the utilities all over the place underground," Trump told the Herald. "At a minimum, we wanted them to give us a beautiful new pole, which wouldn’t be really expensive."

Trump said FPL suggested his organization pay about $300,000 for the poles, a figure he called "ridiculous."

The renovations to the resort are slated to be completed in March 2014, in time for the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship.
