‘Tonight Show': Bernie Sanders Calls FDR a ‘Great President'

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders went straight to business on the "Tonight Show," calling President Franklin D. Roosevelt a model president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump a divisive demigogue.

Tuesday's interview opened with Sanders saying he admires Roosevelt — the two were born in New York City — as a model president to follow.

"He's a great president," he said.

The Vermont senator dismissed Donald Trump and his recent statement to ban all Muslims from traveling to America.

“Throughout history we’ve had demigogues trying to divert attention away from the real issues,” Sanders told host Jimmy Fallon. “What somebody like Trump is trying to do is divide us.”

He continued, “That kind of crap is not going to work in the United States of America,” he said. “We’ve got to come together.”

Sanders seemed confident, even itching for a fight against Trump.

“I look forward to beating Donald Trump,” he said. But first, he noted, he had to beat his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

Fallon challenged Sanders to a game of “Whisper Challenge.” With headphones blasting music, they each had to take a turn to guess what the other person said by lip reading. Sanders, not missing a beat, guessed a very familiar phrase on Fallon's lips: "Feel the Bern."
