Johnny Weir to Take the Runway at Fashion Week

Fans of fashion-loving, fur-and-spandex-wearing skater Johnny Weir will have cause to celebrate during Fashion Week: The Olympian will be hitting the catwalk at newcomer Asher Levine's Fall 2011 collection on Friday, February 11.

The designer helped create the fur and spandex bodysuit that Weir wears in his book, and also made the skater a custom mink fur coat to boot.

The show will be Levine's first, despite having created pieces for the Scissor Sisters and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" album cover. Gaga has also worn some of Levine's pieces in public, including the white straight jacket-inspired dress featured on the designer's website.

Levine told us a little bit about his upcoming collection over e-mail:

I am very inspired by organic elements, from microscopy to newly discovered organisms. While working on this collection, we were doing pieces for the Scissor Sisters, and their inspiration was Tom of Finland. That influence trickled into our inspiration, so this collection is very Mutant Motorcycle Studs.

Levine has also apparently designed some pieces for the first video from Gaga's new album, so between Gaga and Weir, we'd wager Levine's star is rising.
