Report: ‘Arrested Development’ Finally Heading To The Movies

Could the long-awaited “Arrested Development” movie finally have the green light?

The satirical FOX show, which launched the career of “Superbad” star Michael Cera and featured such highly praised actors as Will Arnett and Jason Bateman, is making progress toward a big screen adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Michael Hurwitz, the creator and executive producer of the Emmy-winning series, is reportedly signed on to write and direct the film. Assisting him will be director Ron Howard, the producer and narrative voice of the show, who told Access Hollywood at the “Frost/Nixon” junket last week that he was “hopeful” about making the film. The two are reportedly still in the process of closing deals with Imagine and Fox Searchlight.

“We still don’t have a script,” Ron admitted to Access. “But it seems that the studio… and the cast all have a real appetite for it. I’m there for it. So, I’m really hoping it happens.”

“Arrested Development” found a cult audience on DVD after three seasons on FOX, but fans have clamored for more – and now it looks like they’re going to get it. Many of the cast members have floated the idea of the film over the last year, from Jason to Jeffrey Tambor, who starred as family patriarch George Bluth Sr.

Although the show seems to be going on at last, E! reported that one of the cast members might be a “holdout.”

“Yeah, [he or she] might not do it,” an “Arrested” source told E! “However, I do know that we will do the project with or without [him or her].”

While the actor’s identity was unclear, Michael Cera, who played awkward teen George Michael, is the only cast member whose recent comments on the potential film haven’t been positive.

“I don’t think I would want to see a movie of the series if I was a fan, anyway,” Michael told the National Post in August. “And I don’t really see a need for it if you can get the three seasons on DVD.”
