The dancing thing didn't work out so well, but now Kate Gosselin wants to give singing a shot.

The original octomom and star of TLC's "Kate Plus Eight" is angling to showcase herself and her brood this winter with a CD loaded with holiday favorites. She is no doubt hoping it goes better than her stint on "Dancing with the Stars," where she was ousted after a handful of widely panned performances.

"Kate is pitching a CD of holiday songs sung by herself and all her children," a record executive told Rob Shuter of Popeater. "She sees herself as a modern day Maria from 'The Sound of Music.'"

Gosselin would join a long list of reality TV stars who stretched their her vocal cords. Three women from Bravo's 'Real Housewives' franchise released tracks of their own, and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino of MTV's "Jersey Shore" recently debuted his own rap song. Paris Hilton of  "The Simple Life," recorded an album in 2006, and Heidi Montag of "The Hills," and Brooke Hogan of "Hogan Knows Best," also have come out their own music.

Then there are those who have done the reverse, making the transition from musicians to reality stars. This list includes the likes of Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath who invited cameras to document his family's daily routine in "The Osbournes," and Snoop Dogg with his show "Snoop Dogg's Father Hood" who did the same. Singer Jessica Simpson's show "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica," helped boost sales of her holiday album back in 2004, during the pinnacle of the show's run.

So far, Gosselin has not been offered a record deal by any major companies. But according to one friend quoted by Shuter, she knows the clock is ticking.

"She knows her fifteen minutes are not going to last forever and wants to make the most of it," the pal said.
