Lance Armstrong is the cancer-surviving headliner of "Stand Up to Cancer," a TV fundraiser set for next month.

The telethon, announced Thursday, will also feature appearances by other sports, music and movie stars who have faced the disease, including Maura Tierney, Christina Applegate and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Also on hand will be Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.

Musical performances by Stevie Wonder, Queen Latifah, Martina McBride, Aaron Neville and Dave Stewart will also be part of the hour-long program, which airs commercial-free Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, as well as on a number of cable channels. News anchors Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams will host.

(the "Spider-Man" franchise), a cancer survivor who produced the first telecast, has taken on the job again.

"On Sept. 10, we'll send a resounding message: We can cure cancer. It's going to take guts, brains and the ongoing support of the public, but we can do this," film and TV producer Laura Ziskin said.

The inaugural 2008 event helped deliver more than $100 million for research.
