J. Lo Opens Up Post-Marc Anthony Split

Jennifer Lopez says she loves herself enough to walk away from a bad marriage.

In her first interview since splitting from hubby Marc Anthony after seven years of marriage, Lopez tells Vanity Fair she’s still a “hopeless romantic and passionate person when it comes to love.”

“It’s not that I didn’t love myself before,” the thrice-married performer tells Vanity Fair for its September cover story. But she says, “sometimes we don’t realize that we are compromising ourselves.”

“To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself—if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me,” Lopez adds. “I love myself enough to walk away from that now.”

According to E!, which published more transcripts of the interview, Lopez, 42, confirms reports that she and Anthony were constantly fighting.

"Marriage is tough," she told VF. "It's not going to be perfect...It's definitely challenging."

The Bronx-born actress, singer and likely returning "American Idol" judge was previously married in 1997 to restaurateur Ojani Noa and in 2001 to back up dancer Cris Judd.

Besides revealing her thoughts on marriage, Lopez also talks about her past high-profile relationship with P. Diddy and broken engagement to Ben Affleck.

Despite the failed relationships, Lopez calls love her “biggest dream” and says she remains an “optimist.”

She also tells VF that Anthony – the father of her 3-year-old twins -- will remain in her life. According to TheWrap.com, Lopez is sticking with the new Latin American talent competition she’s producing with her pop star ex.

“I will always respect Marc as a singer and performer,” Lopez tells VF. “We actually work great together, and he was always very supportive. Together we could make magic—and we did. He will always be in our lives. He will always hold a special place in my heart as the father of my children.”

Check out Lopez's full interview when the new issue of Vanity Fair drops Wednesday.
