Maria Schneider, Brando's “Last Tango” Lover, Dead at 58

Actress was just 19 when she played in racy film

Maria Schneider, the French actress made famous at 19 for her role as Marlon Brando's lover in "Last Tango in Paris", has died.

Schneider, who was 58, died Thursday morning in Paris after a long illness, reported Le Figaro.

The daughter of French actor Daniel Gelin and a Parisian book dealer, Schneider was still in her teens when she was cast opposite Brando, who was 48.

"Last Tango in Paris" was controversial at the time of its release in 1972 for its sexual content, including the infamous "butter scene."

Three years later, Schneider appeared opposite Jack Nicholson in "The Passenger."
