Cher is finally speaking out about her child undergoing the process of transitioning from female to male.
"She is embarking on a difficult journey, but one that I will support. I respect the courage it takes to go through this transition in the glare of public scrutiny," Cher said in a statement released to People.
"Although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding," Cher continued, adding, "The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child."
According to the mag, Chaz is planning on having surgery, which will include a double mastectomy. In addition, he has begun taking testosterone, which will alter his body and voice.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, on Friday, a source told Access Hollywood that Cher has been "loving and supportive" of her child, who went public with his decision to transition just after his 40th birthday.
"He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones," rep Howard Bragman said of Chaz in a statement released to Access Hollywood. "It is Chaz's hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his 'coming out' did nearly 20 years ago."
