CNN to Larry King: Please Stay A little Longer

Piers Morgan's visa problems trip up changing of guard

CNN isn't quite ready to push Larry King out the door, because his replacement, Brit Piers Morgan, is having visa troubles, according to a report.

Instead of leaving this fall, the network wants King to stay through the end of the year, according to the New York Post. Morgan, the "America's Got Talent" judge believed to be King's replacement, is having trouble obtaining a work visa, several sources told the Post.

The glitch looks like it will delay the deal to put Morgan in King's slot by early November, but is not believed to threaten the succession plan.

As a British citizen, Morgan, 45, needs a special visa to work full-time in the U.S. -- and those types of visas are increasingly difficult to get, according to lawyers who specialize in the field.

In general, the process "has gotten much slower in the past year" as the federal government tightens paperwork requirements for immigrants, says one attorney.

King, who has signaled that Morgan would not have been his first choice -- is willing to stick around, sources told the Post.
