Sony is bringing in a closer for "Moneyball."

Several weeks after abruptly canceling the Steven Soderbergh project days before production was set to begin, Aaron Sorkin will be rewriting the baseball drama, starring Brad Pitt, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film will remain at Columbia, despite a stint in limited turnaround where other studios had a shot at picking up the picture.

Soderbergh is no longer associated with the project. Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal reportedly got cold feet after seeing the director's draft of the script, which incorporated more documentary elements. Sorkin will be working from screenwriter Steve Zaillian's initial version, with a fresh draft due as early as next month.

Pitt remains set to star in "Moneyball," which is based on the book of the same name that documented the Oakland A's and general manager Billy Beane's game-changing approach to recruiting players.

Sorkin has reportedly just turned in a script for "The Social Network," a film about the birth of Facebook.
