We're Loving: Sunshine & Shadow Spring 2010

Lily Raskind, the Brooklyn-based designer behind indie label Sunshine & Shadow, has made a name for herself by taking the simplest of elements -- simple silk separates and vivid colors -- and creating something fresh and original each season.

Her spring collection shares the foundations of her previous years' work -- flattering silk tanks, flowy skirts, and everyday tank dresses -- but it's the colors that really take our breath away, especially paired in playful combinations like sunflower yellow and Dutch blue.

"The spring collection was really about color and lightness," said Raskind. "I wanted the clothes to have an optimistic, bright, and easy feeling after the overall darkness that was happening for fall. Some of my favorite pieces are teh three-color dress, the silk shorts, and the elastic-waist tank."

We must say, we've also noticed that knee-socks seem to be having a moment. They were all over the runways with sandals and booties at Alexander Wang and Rachel Comey, giving the collections a youthful, schoolgirl appeal, and we love the idea of wearing such brightly-hued stockings.

"I think the accessories really bring the collection together," Raskin told us. "I especially like the necklaces because it was something we hadn't done before, and the striped wrap belts."

Want to shop where Lily shops? Stick to Williamsburg -- the designer loves browsing from water all the way to the BQE, especially Grand Street. "One of my favorite stores is MC&Co on North 6th -- the store itself always looks amazing and they have the best jewelry and ceramics."
