From a distance, Lauren Nevada's paneled sleeveless dress looks like an understated, beautifully-tailored update on classic tuxedo dressing. And it is: the Brooklyn-based designer casts a modern eye on menswear-inspired jackets, with its shawl collar and the fluid drapery of the silk.
But a closer look reveals some surprises. At the waist, a hand-painted tye-dye panel makes every dress one-of-a-kind, while the torso-slimming cut opens up to a skirt that's both sinuous and flouncy.
Only a year old, Nevada's namesake fashion line consists of just a few similarly artful and expertly-tailored pieces, which, considering how well they're made, heralds a welcome return to thoughtful and deliberate fashion. Less is definitely more considering that this particular dress we're loving is like a jacket, vest and dress all in one.
Sometimes it's the quiet ones that say the most.
