Tommy Hilfiger is launching a line of sunglasses and optical glasses in New York September 12, with a nationwide roll-out to follow in January 2011.
The designer's first-time eyewear collection with Safilo is a rather extensive one, comprising more than 15 styles across several lens options. Hilfiger shared with WWD his inspiration, besides the brand's signature preppy spirit, included vintage, urban and aviator glam, as well as sports and race cars.
The sunglasses drop at the NYC flagship on September 12, during Fashion Week—the day of Hilfiger's runway show and the brand's 25th anniversary. A worldwide launch of both sunnies and prescription frames in Europe will take place throughout the next few months, followed by a stateside launch in January 2011.RInging in at $130-$180 for optical frames and $90-$180 for sunglasses, the rather affordable offering makes for sunny dispositions.
