Thom Browne will build on past capsule collections and a limited made-to-order business to slowly-but-surely launch womenswear for Barneys for fall.
Contrary to his sense of showmanship and aesthetic daring, Browne will expand his signature collection to encompass womenswear with prudence, introducing a tightly controlled set of tailored jackets, trousers, and outerwear to Barneys, Colette, and 10 Corso Como Seoul come September. From there, the designer plans to grow the line into a full collection under the equally sensible-minded Cross Company, which bought a majority stake in the company last year.
Browne has of course established his own place in menswear, both as a tailor and a visionary, and has consistently designed for both sexes as part of his Black Fleece collections for Brooks Brothers. He told WWD that he'd definitely wish to show his women's collections in Paris down the line, but is focusing on his first men's show there next season, and did not reveal further details regarding women's.
