The Limelight Marketplace Set to Open May 7

The eagerly anticipated Limelight Marketplace has an official opening date of May 7 - a new anniversary for the latest incarnation of the Chelsea church/nightclub/shopping center landmark.

The May debut comes over a month after the Limelight's original March 25 projected opening date, which doesn't seem too bad when it comes to building and construction these days (remember how the Isabel Marant store was supposed to open in February, but it's been pushed to April?).

The Limelight is very New York in its versatility, having started as a church and later turned into a nightclub in the 1980s.  After being shuttered for many years, work began on the 25,000-square-foot marketplace to open with a variety of high-end shops in a mall-city market hybrid. The shops on offer sound like a real hodgepodge: the first Hunter Boots shop in the country, a J. Sisters salon, Sabon, Caswell Massey and there'll sustenance from spots as varied as S'Mac, Grimaldi's pizza, and Mari's Brownies.

UPDATE: The new date has shifted from April 29 to May 7. Here's hoping the new-new date sticks!
