The Kids Were Alright at Fashion Week

At the wrap of fashion week in NYC, the Threaders were abuzz with how many children they'd seen-slash-crashed-into at various shows, and the Wall Street Journal confirms our suspicions: They were everywhere.

We saw Kelly Cutrone sternly tell her daughter to cut it out about sitting third row at a fashion show on Kell on Earth, while Araks Yeramyan had her adorable brood flanking her at her presentation in the meatpacking district. Zero + Maria Cornejo's show fell on a school vacation day, and thusly resembled the Museum of Natural History on a Wednesday afternoon.  And then, of course, there's the tween queen of the youngsters, blogger du jour Tavi the Style Rookie, who can count custom designed tights from Rodarte and front row spot at just about every major show (most notably, in a controversial hat at Dior) on her 13-year-old resume.

While precariously navigating the backstage hubbub at Yigal Azrouel with a cameraman and a rather large handbag hindering our movements, we were stunned to see a hot mama in five-inch platforms chasing after a newly mobile tot in a leopard print cardigan and jeggings.  It was official: babies backstage are the new babies in bars, a New York City trend that now seems so last year.

The Journal story is a hoot -- full disclosure, I'm a suburban transplant, and therefore finds being left in the car with a driver outside the Ralph Lauren show a lot sexier than being left in the car with brothers outside the drycleaners. It's always fascinating to observe the anomaly of the New York Child in its natural habitat.
