The Fashion Incubator Moves into the Garment District

The Times stopped by the new digs of designers picked for the fashion business incubator, a city program to foster the talents of emerging young talent with rent breaks and CFDA mentoring.

Though Eric Wilson likens the designers' new space in the Garment District to a shopping mall (the horror!), the convenience to the trade's epicenter and rents starting at $1,500 per month make the initiative an attractive one for an independent designer in the city.  The neighborhood has stood in limbo amongst several initiatives to save the longstanding fashion industry and soaring real estate values boxing out the players of that industry.  It seems as though anyone in the trade would stand by the GD as the place to be, but it's up for debate.
