Ted Baker Expands to the Meatpacking District

Cheeky-chic British designer Ted Baker is planning to open a shop on Little West 12th in the Meatpacking District.

The 2,000-square-foot boutique is tentatively scheduled to open as early as September, and will join the designer's Soho store as part of what Crain's indicates is Baker's "agressive expansion" plans.

The neighborhood has been blossoming retail for a while now, and brokers reportedly attribute the boost to the recent opening of the Highline, as well as the announcement the Whitney Museum will open there in 2015.

The Ted Baker news comes on the heels of Sephora's plans for a new store and the announcement earlier this year that Levi's would open in MePa in the fall. No matter the neighborhood, it seems retail is surging back downtown, which is always a good sign for the city's fashion industry.
