Inside the Steven Alan Sample Sale

Join the well-behaved hordes of hipsters as they delve into the Steven Alan sample sale at 87 Franklin Street: This one's worth the trip, especially if you want to stock up on some crisp, plaid shirts.

Set on two floors in Steven Alan's Tribeca showroom, the comprehensive sale is organized into the main floor divided into men's and women's Steven Alan label merch - heavily dominated by the signature button-down shirts, with a few dresses and bottoms, the latter of which remained mostly in sizes eight and above.

No merchandise is allowed between floors, so once you're done with the first floor, you've got to buy and check.  This also means the area's only suitable try-on area is unisex, so, be prepared.

Downstairs are a handful of the store's other designers, boxes of bags and maybe 20 pairs of shoes.  We spotted lots of La Garconne and Olivia Harris for Gryson bags (the bags were priced at a very pleasing $200 range), a rack of summer-perfect wide-leg and acid wash Rogan jeans for $95 a pop, some hot Gar-De anoraks marked down to $75 from $575 and a rack of pretty Sunshine & Shadow sundresses.  We recommend also cruising the men's rack for clutch cashmere tees and sweaters at decent prices.

In short, there's lots to be had if you're up to really dig in, and the patience level for survival is at a minimum and deals are solid, so you'll leave happy as a clam.
