SpongeBob gets the Lagerfeld Treatment

BChildhood icon, SpongeBob Squarepants, resident of Bikini Bottom and renowned "crabby patty" expert, was given a high-fashion makeover by none other than Kaiser Karl Lagerfeld for a recent World Wildlife Fund auction in Paris.

Generally perceived to be a sponge of simple pleasures, SpongeBob's startlingly chic metamorphosis required trading in his humble square pants for a white oxford and slim, understated black tie.  The look was completed with the addition of fetching black fingerless gloves, knee-high combat boots, and glossy black sunglasses.

The Lagerfeld ensemble proved a knockout hit among auction attendees, and fetched 1000 euros ($1500 current exchange), the highest sum of the day. Many French celebrities including Ines de la Fressange, singer Patrick Bruel and TV presenter Nikos Aliagas had autographed objects linked to the cartoon, but as we always suspected, everything that Kaiser touches turns to gold.
