For spring, Rachel Roy amped up her consistently body-conscious jersey-draped dresses and separates with jewel hues, florals and casual, tailored separates for spring.
Rachel Roy creates versatile, wearable collections worthy of every event from the red carpet to a typical weekday, and the designer's latest lineup is no exception. Her palette for both solids and patterns ranged between strong, saturated jewel tones like peacock blue, teal and mauve; metallics both serene (the bodice of a gown paired with a heather gray-and-white column skirt) and glittery (a cocktail tank dress), florals in similarly bright tones and, of course, the season's popular whites and neutrals, which Roy has been putting out for some time now.
Tailored jackets and trousers came sophisticately shrunken, while careful detailing was paid to the waist area: pinched seams and skinny belts were seen on several of the separates. That same coolness that Roy always infuses into her clothes was prevalent throughout the collection: large-scale, but low-volume ruffles on a skirt and edgy, corset-like tailoring on a bustier top, for example.
Like much of her design cohorts, Roy opted for a tea length on her skirts, furthering our prediction that spring will be all about the return of the day dress.
Naturally, Roy's celebrity friends and editorial bigwigs came out to support the newest line. Along with Elle's top team, Andre Leon Talley, Russell Simmons and Tiffani Amber Thiessen (perhaps better known as Kelly Kapowsky from Saved by the Bell or Valerie Malone of 90210) were also in attendance.
