Phillip Lim Created Custom Suits for Kanye West in “Runaway” Video

When Kanye West turned up at Phillip Lim's Spring 2011 runway show in September, we were as star-struck as we were curious: West hasn't been known for wearing a ton of Lim's pieces, and sitting front row at more avant-garde shows like Rodarte seemed more his speed. Now we have the answer: The designer and the star had been working on a project together.

According to a new interview with MTV Style, Lim reveals that the pieces West wears in his new, 34-minute video, "Runaway" (which, incidentally, also features Selita Eubanks as a half-naked angel, complete with some spectacular wings), were custom-ordered from the designer himself. While it's great news for Lim -- the designer's relaxed, chic aeshetic certain deserves all the accolades it gets -- it's probably not welcome news for all the gents who might have hoped to snag that slick white-and-black tuxedo jacket off the racks of Lim's Soho boutique.

As Lim relays to MTV style, the partnership came together quite simply: "Kanye came into our SoHo store, and our sales director was in there at the same time. They got chatting, and Kanye was put in touch with me."
