Oscar de la Renta to Debut Line for Kids

Following in the footsteps of a renewed fervor for designer goods -- including Gucci's line for children featuring Jennifer Lopez and Lanvin's "superluxury" line for kids -- iconic designer Oscar de la Renta recently announced the launch of the brand's new children's line, WWD reports.

The line will reportedly include styles for girls and boys from about 18 months to 14 years old, and a capsule collection for spring will reportedly be available at Bergdorf Goodman and Oscar de la Renta stores.

De la Renta is best known for his stunning gowns and ladylike cocktail dresses, so anyone planning to attend a summer wedding, for example, with a little boy or girl should definitely plan on taking a look at these goods if it's within their means. An initial image from the brand's capsule collection also shows summery dresses that channel the designers' feminine appeal without looking too dressy.

The brand hired Catherine Monteiro de Barros to act as vice president of design for children’s wear, and she told WWD that the new collection would target "mothers who are interested in quality and style but who also want their children to look like children." That said, we'd encourage parents to refrain their children from acting like children in these clothes in some regards: sandbox playing and food fights in De la Renta seem like bad ideas.
