One to Watch: Meredith Wendell

Meredith German never met an accessory she didn't like.

"I love that there are so many different categories for accessories," says the designer, who fashions everything from colorful Italian-made leather totes to woven belts and jewelry under her label Meredith Wendell, named after herself and husband Wendell German.

"I'm able to do a lot of different things. Also, I really hate to sew—so accessories are a perfect match."

The West Virgina native found early design inspiration in the Greenbrier Hotel, a stately old resort and golf club in White Sulphur Springs, W.V.

"The interiors are incredible, full of bold colors and a crazy mix of scale," Meredith explains. "That was my initial influence for the collection and I always feel a great deal of inspiration when I return."

Given the sports-club inspirations, it's hardly surprising that Meredith Wendell pieces are imbued with a playful, sporty vibe.

"I have always given a sporty-lady feel to the collection," she says. "Classic shapes with a new sporty twist. It's an interesting mix of color, shape and details."

To wit, Meredith explored classic pieces like tobacco leather woven belts as well as splashy neon accessories in the spring 2012 collection, including acid-green jewelry, bright beach totes and statement-making belts—some of which, we're sure, will be packed up for her forthcoming summer excursion—back to the Greenbrier—next week.
