Designer John Varvatos and celebutante-turned-House of Harlow and Winter Kate designer, Nicole Richie will join show mentor Jessica Simpson and judge Elle Macpherson on NBC's upcoming show, "Fashion Star", according to a network press release.
Richie, who recently added a line of handbags to her gradually growing empire, and Varvatos will serve as celebrity mentors to contestants as they vie for a retail contract with major department stores, whose buyers will serve as judges on the show. Richie, rather infamously, first came onto the scene as a sassy reality show personality alongside Paris Hilton on Fox's "The Simple Life" in 2003, but has since established a legitimate name for herself as a designer with her two clothing and accessories lines.
"NBC could not have asked for better additions to the celebrity mentors than John Varvatos, one of the most well-known menswear designers in the nation and international style icon and creative director, Nicole Richie," said Paul Telegdy, NBC's EVP of alternative programming in a release.
Indeed, it's a seriously strong combination of celebrity and credibility—mixed with the watch-now-buy-now format wherein viewers can go online and purchase fashions featured in the episodes.
