NBC to Launch “Fashion Star” with Elle Macpherson

Another season, another fashion-focused reality television series—not that we're complaining, of course.

This time, however, things are different. The upcoming show, Fashion Star, is launching on NBC this fall, with supermodel-turned-fashion-business-tycoon Elle Macpherson as host. According to an NBC press release, Fashion Show takes a slight departure from shows like Project Runway, which focuses primarily on high fashion, with a more approach, bringing in buyers to judge a wide range of garments from swimwear to denim.

So accessible, in fact, that viewers will have the chance to go online immediately following the show, and purchase the featured designs from all contestants, winners and losers alike. Even the participating buyers-as-judges will be making real-time purchases, along with their decisions. According to the press release:

"Famous designers and buyers from America's largest retailers will serve as the judges, making on-the-spot decisions as they bid against each other, dipping into their own wallets to purchase the work of these up-and-coming designers."

It sounds like the sartorial version of Glee's post-show iTunes offerings—that is, if Glee also had record-company scouts visiting the fictional high school during the show.
