Matthew Williamson to Design for Macy's

Matthew Williamson will launch his collection for Macy's April 13, as the second guest designer in the department store's Impulse capsule series, WWD reports. Macy's has employed a dedicated strategy of tapping international, high design talent—Kinder Aggugini was the first, and Karl Lagerfeld will follow Williamson—in hopes to capture a younger fashion market.

Williamson seems to have risen to that role, with sneak peek images showing off his signature exuberance in bright-and-bold printed and embellished cocktail dresses and rompers, printed scarves, separates and jackets, retailing between $50-$300.

As Williamson told WWD:

“The collection aims to capture the essence of the mainline brand, with a focus on effortless glamour; dynamic prints; loosely structured silhouettes, and pops of strong color.”

Macy's EVP of fashion Molly Langenstein pointed to Williamson's command of the current season's Seventies trend and prevalence of bright colors. "The most important thing is finding designers that best represent what the trends are of the moment," she told WWD.

Indeed, the store has plucked four designers to round out the series—Macy's has yet to announce the final name, though with Lagerfeld on deck, we anticipate an exciting one to follow.
