U.S. Operations for Shu Uemura to Shutter

Fans of Shu Uemura's facial cleansing oils and simply-the-best eyelash curler are reeling at the news that L'Oreal will discontinue the line's operations in the U.S

Having become synonymous with the essential eyelash curler -- they even opened a "Tokyo Lash Bar" in the newly-renovated Bloomingdales beauty floor last fall -- Shu Uemura has been a cosmetics stalwart since the line's eponymous inspiration began selling the cleansing oil he had developed as a Hollywood makeup artist in 1960.  L'Oreal has held a controlling interest in the brand since 2003, along with other names like Yves Saint Laurent, Kiehl's, Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren in its luxury division.

Shu Uemura does an estimated 80 percent of its business in Asia, and will continue as usual in all other markets outside the U.S.  No word on the exact cut-off timeline, only that stores are developing "exit plans" -- so we'd suggest popping by Sephora soon to stock up.
