Lauren Moffatt Debuts New Swim Collection

Call it spring fever, but a number of top designers are taking the plunge into swimwear this season, from Alex Wang's sporty suits to retro styles by local lingerie line, Zinke.

So we were hardly surprised to hear that Lauren Moffatt -- she of the breezy vintage-inspired dresses and charming prints -- announced she was getting in on the action with a debut collection of six colorful swim styles, all of which capture her own feminine, quirky aesthetic.

"I loved the idea of having another category to delve into," Moffatt says of her decision to launch the collection.

Moffatt insists the design process was actually pretty "easy." "I have always loved really simple suits," she tells us. "I let the colors and combinations speak for themselves, and every now and then popped in the unexpected pleated ruffle."

A picture of her mother on the beach in the '70s served as ample creative inspiration for Moffatt, who instilled each piece with a nostalgic, girly appeal with floral motifs and ruffle detailing.

Moffatt also points out that, while the florals and ruffles may read "nice girl," there's still a touch of naughtiness in each look, from an alluring one-shoulder silhouette to the skimpier triangle bikinis. "Much like the rest of our line, there’s a very apparent sexy-versus-modest juxtaposition."
