Know Right Now: Stone Cold Fox

Childhood BFFs Cydney Morris and Dallas Wand cite a combination of the "Old West, archaic gypsies and Jane Birkin" as inspiration for their SoCal brand, Stone_Cold_Fox. Though they deliberately keep the label "hard to find," once discovered, its balance of easy vintage shapes and modern design twists make it tough to forget.

For 2010, the girls launched "Gypsy Decay," a collection that's equal parts cowgirl (suede fringe jackets), beach babe (ivory lace minidresses) and desert hippie (printed velvet "jagger" bellbottoms)—the sum of which might be called "Coachella Couture." Fusing it all together are simple cotton and silk staples, like a peach silk "nomad blouse," which could be paired with any of the brand's fancier seperates.

But there are also exceptional statement pieces, like a washed silk jacket with butterfly sleeves and covered in black velvet squiggles, or the "hitchhiker bloomers," made from thick daisy lace. Best of all are the price points, which range from about $200 (silk basics) to around $450 (chiffon dresses and lace pieces).
