Takashimaya
After months of speculation, Forever 21 has secured leasing within the Fifth Avenue building formerly occupied by now-shuttered Japanese department store Takashimaya.
It's not a traditional arrangement -- Racked reports that the current contract is for a mere six months and Forever 21 has yet to confirm which floors it will occupy -- but it's the first official word on the massive retail building since Swatch's stalled bid for the space earlier this May.
We're betting that the new tenant will make a permanent play for the space. Crain's reports that as early as last fall, the company was scouting the avenue as far south as 521 Avenue -- the current address for soon-to-open possible midtown competitor Urban Outfitters.
