Dr. Martens, the beloved punk "combat" boot, has evolved along with the rebellious youths that have fallen for it over the last five decades, and now they're celebrating with limited-edition styles.
The 1460 boot ($130) with eight eyelets to the mid-calf, and the 1461 three-eyelet oxford shoe ($110) were handcrafted in Docs' original factory in England and released in stores on the brand's golden anniversary in black and cherry red. The limited-edition sets of 1,460 and 1,461 pairs, respectively, come designed with special gold detailing on footbeds, heel loops, eyelets and lace-ends (which are called agelets, did you know that?), then packaged with a certificate of authenticity in a special box.
They certainly sound nice, but frankly we remain wistful for our old worn-out pair from the early '90s. Beat-up is still best.
