Designers on Summer: David Peck Loves Swimming, Cold Iced Tea

If the phrase "eco-fashion" immediately calls to mind hemp T-shirts and slouchy maxi-dresses, you haven't heard of David Peck, whose new collection of sustainably-crafted garments, CrOp by David Peck, is anything but "hippie."

Finding inspiration in world events, Peck went to New Orleans before assembling his Fall 2011 collection, creating unusual graphic textiles from the photos he took of rusted oil barrels and shattered glass. Now, even as he busily prepares spring 2012 for presentation next week, Peck found time to share his favorite summer excursions before the season slips away.

Summer getaway: "Aspen in the summer is the best. I spent two summers at the music festival as a student, and I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be in the summer."

Favorite warm-weather activity: "The free outdoor movies at La Villette in Paris."

Beat-the-heat solution: "Always a pool."

Summer workload: "Busy! We've launched our new online shop, and took an inspiration trip to New Orleans."

Fondest childhood summer memory: "Swimming in my grandparents' pool every day, all day."

Summer uniform: "Shorts, white tee shirt, and Toms shoes."

Summer treat: "Iced tea."

Summer anthem: "'(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction,' by The Rolling Stones."

Summer style icon: "Don Johnson."

Ultimate NYC "vacation-for-a-day"
: "The Cloisters."
