David Beckham to Launch Bodywear, Fragrance

David Beckham is working on a line of bodywear, and will also launch a fragrance, Homme by David Beckham, in September, the LA Galaxy midfielder and global superstar confirmed to WWD.

Inspired by his stint as the face -- and, ahem, body -- of Armani men's underwear, Beckham cited jumps in sales figures of more than $20 million in 2008 following the collaboration as his motivation: "It proved to me that there is a real market for good-looking, well-made men’s bodywear."

The Homme by David Beckham fragrance marks the athlete's third turn in the scents market, following David Beckham Instinct and the his-and-hers Intimately Beckham fragrance he created with his wife and fellow superstar-turned-fashion-designer, Victoria Backham.

Given Beckham's megawatt star power, and the clout held by Beckham's business partner, Simon Fuller -- who was responsible for both the Spice Girls and American Idol -- this is likely just the beginning of the expanding Beckham brand. With the promise of a scantily-clad Becks endorsing his goods (alongside a logo created by Stella McCartney's designer husband, Alasdhair Willis), we imagine fans will only encourage the brand's growth.
