That's right, the theme for the Custo Barcelona fall 2010 collection is "hairy metal". Luckily it's only kind of gross in name; really it's the brand's usual blazing ebullience.
Amidst a firestorm of strobe lights and tent-thumping club dance music, models practically ran down the runway (not terribly helpful to those of us interested in seeing the back of the garment). Classic Custo, there was lots of color and shimmering metallics, juxtaposing thick wools with light tin fringe and bedazzled colored fur on graphic prints, right down to the bottom of the pants.
Several knockout frocks included a tiered fringe mini paired with a jade-dyed fur chubby and a trench-like jacket covered in sharp, light-catching fringe. The mix of prints and color makes for endless interest in all the pieces, from cartoon characters and stripes to brilliant floral patterns and metals with wool.
All the optimism on the runway seemed to stream throughout the house - people were laughing and chatting (kind of a big deal for the fashion-y set!), and, though utterly packed, seating and leaving was smooth and quick. The Dionysian crowd, mostly speaking Spanish, sent our energy soaring nearly as much as the clothes.
