On the red carpet, the rising star designer -- who later won the Swarovski Award for Womenswear -- talked up everyone except himself, from his fellow nominees to his supermodel date.
Anyone who's ever interviewed rising star designer (and Thread NY favorite) Prabal Gurung will tell you that his calling card is how genuinely humble and excited he has been in the face of a torrential wave of popularity and success over the past year. On the red carpet at the CFDA Awards -- where he was nominated for a Swarovski Award for Womenswear -- Gurung even stopped between interviews to dash over and try to snap a cameraphone picture of Lady Gaga. (He later gushed, "I'm going to tweet it! I love her!")
True to form, the soon-to-be-award-winning designer called out his favorite looks by the designers also nominated in his category, from The Row's leather jackets to Altuzarra's Fall 2011 collection to his supermodel date's good looks. "Everyone's a competitor, but everyone's a friend," he said.
His supermodel date, however, wasn't so shy in saying she hoped he'd win: "Definitely," she said.
