Brooklynites, rejoice! Barneys Co-op will be landing at 194 Atlantic Avenue (at Court Street) in Cobble Hill in September.
Word that Barneys Co-Op was looking to expand to Brooklyn came late last year, with most sources speculating that the less-lavish Barneys offshoot would, indeed, choose to settle in the charming-but-bustling Cobble Hill area. Of course, the fact that the location will be so close to Trader Joe's is bound to create quite a cluster. We're sure there'll be more than a few naysayers, fearing for Brooklyn's street cred and the fate of little boutiques in the wake of a big store like Barneys Co-op opening next to an even bigger store like Trader Joe's, but frankly, of all the Manhattan outposts to expand to Brooklyn, this is the best fit. A second spot in the city will only mean shorter lines and smaller crowds at the Co-op sale, too!
Good news for the West Coast: This Brooklyn expansion is part of a nationwide plan -- Santa Monica will be getting a new outpost as well.
