Stuart Weitzman's New Bags
The man best known for dreaming up dainty, sparkling evening shoes has long created purses to match. But now, in a new licensing agreement with Mosaicon SpA, he's designing a new collection priced between $395 and $595 that focuses on mostly day bags and will be available at the beginning of summer.
We'll admit, we too were a bit confused about the announcement of a new handbag launch by the designer, since his handbags are already available in bulk on zappos.com, for example. Well, the new licensing deal will apparently allow the designer to make bags on a wholesale level, meaning his bags could pop up everywhere (even outside of his flagship stores).
Why did the designer decide to start this project now, given the, ahem, challenging economic climate? "Recessions have always opened up opportunities for people who like to be a little aggressive in their business,” explained Weitzman to WWD.
