Following a pants-less bonanza on the Spring 2010 runways, which followed the Lady Gaga-fication of the planet, it comes as no surprise that lingerie, worn now both under and over, has seen a sales boom in recent months.
According to recent figures released from the lingerie department at London's Selfridges' shop, sales of high fashion corsets are up 70% - and that's on items priced around a cool thousand bucks. The Angela Cage bandage slip, priced just shy of $600, flew off the shelves after Rihanna wore a similar get-up to the American Music Awards. This trend could be worrisome - Rihanna is, after all, is 21 years old and a knockout, obviously - and, we're guessing, all the rabid corset-buyers may not be. But, we digress.
On a more sensible scale, shapewear miracle, Spanx has also seen a boost in sales of about 60%. Just in time for lots-of-canapes-in-cocktail-dresses season.
