Rachel Roy: Spring 2010

Perhaps reflective of a year that saw the end of her marriage and expanded commercial success and critical recognition, Rachel Roy showed a sophisticated and somewhat solemn Spring 2010 collection.

Roy employed a minimalistic sensibility on a colorful array of intelligent draping and subtle, ladylike flourishes on dresses, letting the fabric make the statement.  From the looks of the pieces, they're made for the multitasking woman with a fierce penchant for fashion, conveyed in a softly lush, simply wrapped white jersey one-shoulder (with a long sleeve) cocktail dress, a high-spliced tulip skirt and low-cut three-piece pantsuit and black mesh over a crisp white sheath.

There's something brilliant in Roy's dichotomy, because anyone who can spin such sex appeal on modestly cut pieces that seem comfortable enough to sleep in just proves that some women really can do it all.
