Nike Quits US Chamber of Commerce Over Environment

Environmental issues are not just for tree-hugging pacifists: Nike announced it would be stepping down from the board of directors of the US Chamber of Commerce due to differences in position over the treatment of global warming.

In a statment September 30, a Nike spokesperson cited various recent instances prompting the global corporation's decision to part ways, including the Chamber's stance that Congress, and not the Environmental Protection Agency, should have the authority to set global warming legislation.  The issue with the EPA was one of several disagreements, leading Nike to doubt the Chamber's level of aggression toward environmental hazards.

Hopefully a rift in the ranks won't weaken the fight, but both sides vow to continue fighting for the environment as a top priority.
