Marchesa Handbags for Spring

Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig will expand upon their eveningwear empire with a line of bags and clutches for spring, debuting at the label's show at the Chelsea Art Museum September 16.

The calling card of these designers has always been breathtakingly pretty pieces that are at the same time anything but conventional, and the bags seem to follow suit.  Emulating the workmanship of the dresses, the bags, all handmade in New York, with beading done in India, are constructed from supreme materials from silk to exotic skins, with couture-quality detailing including pleats, tassels and the signature rosette.  Each piece comes topped with a raw cut crystal and interiors evoke corseting with grosgrain ribbon embroidered throughout.  Best of all, it was essentail the bags fit realistic essentials for the modern party girl: BlackBerry (or iPhone!), cosmetics and keys.  Brilliant.

The bags will also provide a glimpse into the jewelry aesthetic Chapman is parlaying into a capsule collection of baubles with Garrard creative director Stephen Webster, also launching this fall.

The bags, which could aptly be described as jewel boxes, will retail between $995-$5,000, for the skins.
